Since Wellington city council are making it hard to spin in wellington....
I'm going into the Lower Hutt city council tomorrow to see about getting a venue for fire spinning in the Hutt.
Will be the usual fire, drumming and dancing carry on...
Anyone interested... just say.

Re: Wellington Burners...
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 2:24 AMwhat are the council doing?
We're having regular weekly burns around the Mount and have been thinking about approaching the local council next summer as a pre-emptive thing to cover our arses and prevent any hassles as they get a bit touchier near New year craziness
Cops never mind, generally watch for a while, see that we're 'responsible safety conscious citizens' then cruise off
but council, parking nazi, permits for everything mentality may eventually become an issue
....would it be better to stay underground -

Re: Wellington Burners...
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 5:54 AMIn wellington they are having issues because no-one runs the event... it just kind of happens ....and there are a few people that react to council demands when the shit hits the fan. but then it is too late.
I can spin on the street here with no hassles... busking requires a licence... and to hold an event on council land means that I should get them onboard...
The main reason being... that for an event to come out from being an underground thing is very hard... imagen if we had done kiwiburn under the radar... then turned up this year and asked the council if we could do it again?
I would also like the Youth Development Initiative to front up, buy some gear and help with safety at the event.
This will ease my workload and give the council some ownership/credit for the event.. the benefits to that are pretty clear as far as sustainability goes.
:-)
Have a look on your council website... you may find that they could be of more assistance to you than be a hassle...

Re: Wellington Burners...
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 5:56 PMAnd the short answer... is YES!!!!
Get permission first and the council are all good.
I am sending off a letter to as permission to use the park.
...And am being send an application for a grant for equipment.
...oh I am giving people instruction and providing gear for them to use at the event.
Happy

Re: Wellington Burners...
Mon, May 28, 2007 - 6:16 PMthanks for the comments Myles
...will take it on board.
Let me know how it goes and any issues regarding public liability insurances, etc...
Especially your responsibilities as the 'main man'
At the moment we're just a small group having informal burns but would like to build it up as it gets warmer
I'm having a talk to a friend that works in the council this week
While we're on the topic
...anyone know the legalities regarding indoor burns?? -

Re: Wellington Burners...
Tue, May 29, 2007 - 5:00 AMI have seen fire indoors at two parties - in both cases it was at the discretion of the owner of the venue, and I know nothing about permits.
